The Cutest Scoop

This scoop is so perfect it looks fake.

Last weekend, I bought timed tickets to go to the Prospect Park Zoo, excited to go someplace new for the first time in awhile. And it was fun! A very cute red panda paraded around for us, and Rebecca shamed a sleepy sloth because his tongue was hanging out for the world to see.

It was midday, and we were all very hot and hungry; we grabbed some tasty tacos from a place across the street from a fancy grocery store (as classified by having roughly 17 kinds of full-fat yogurt, including sheep, goat, Greek AND Australian varietals) and next door to Jamie’s Desert Bar and I decided to duck inside after to grab a sweet, cool snack. I’ve been digging flavors with fruit in them lately, and ended up snagging a scoop of the strawberry cheesecake.

The scoop was absolutely perfect in presentation. I love how the cute edges curl up, and the pink swirls are just a real thing of beauty. I could have spent an hour admiring it, but of course if I did that it would melt into a gross sludgy puddle so instead I got to eatin.

Someday I’ll be able to savor a cone again, but now that NYC has been reclassified into the subtropics summer time is all about inhaling the ice cream as fast as possible. Luckily, this one was delicious — smooth and velvety, with a good, strong strawberry notes, along with the sweet and slightly tart cheesecake base that melded together really well. I love ice cream with good mouthfeel, and the texture was just really nice and lush on the tongue.

5 spoons (and I should go back for a macaron too.)
